Welcome to the Sooner State Model Yacht
Club (SSMYC) web page. Our club is located in Oklahoma City, OK but
sailors or interested spectators (we call you prospective members!) from
anywhere are welcome to visit any event publicized on this web page.
Currently, the club is racing Victoria model
yacht's. At this time there are several building EC12 yachts and we hope to
have a fleet up and going by this spring. But as the Victoria is the least
expensive and one of the easiest to build model yachts recognized by the
American Model Yachting Association (AMYA), it is the boat that will be used at all club
events.
The SSMYC held its first regatta on the
26th of January 2002 and became an official AMYA sanctioned organization on
the 30th of January 2002. We raced every month of our first year except
December, when we held our annual club meeting and tuning and rules seminar
(but some of us snuck out during the meeting to sail anyway.) We intend to
race every month in 2003 as well and will be adding a Series competition
that will encompass all the regattas of the whole year with trophies to be
awarded at the end of the season. Our club grew steadily over the entire
year to about 20 members with races usually having at least 8 boats. We are
already working on increasing our membership next year and we look forward
to a long and enjoyable future.
The group usually has a couple of spare
boats available to demo or even let you race if you come out. We love to
put our radios in guests' hands and let them enjoy the thrill of R/C
sailboats. Please join us for our next race.
